The second installment in the Indiana Jones, region 2 years before Raiders, finds Indy going after the Shonkara stones and trying to rescue children enslaved by the Thagee Cult. He is joined by young Short Round (Key He Quan) and nighclub vocalist Willie Scott, played very well by Kate Capshaw, the fresh Mrs.Spielberg. While Karen Allen’s Marion Ravenwood was a two-fisted hellraiser, Scott is a pampered indoor brat, and in turn is shining, plus her character is quite comic also, as is Short Round. Amrish Puri is a chilling as the villainous cult leader.
Though Temple of Doom lacks Sallah, Marcus Brody, and the Nazis, it is an improvement over Raiders in more than a few ways. To launch, Ford is even better as Indy for his character is tested more. Douglas Slocombe’s photography is more effective, and John Williams’ music gain is even more diverse and genius. Temple of Doom is also more creative, emotionally effective, and imaginative. However, it lacks the spectacle of the first film and is far more controversial and violent. This is the movie that created the PG-13 rating.
Dennis Muren’s handsome Oscar-winning visual effects match Richard Edlund’s effects in Raiders, yet they are not as awe-inspiring or notable to the anecdote. Elliot Scott’s production develop is terrific, and the cult sequences are very intense. The stunts top the ones in Raiders and are really great. The most memorable sequences have to be the mine car prance, the creature feature dinner, the Shanghai nightclub opening, the duel at the cult platform, and the rope bridge finale, fantastic. Though Temple of Doom isn’t as genuine as Raiders or Last Crusade it is highly recommended and is one of the best adventure films ever made.
This 1984 sequel to the 1981 classic “Raiders Of The Lost Ark”, is a valid considerable film to me. I saw it 11 times in the theaters and I was mesmerized. I hadn’t seen anything like it before. It’s one of those films that brings attend stout memories from your youth. Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford all return for this chapter. It takes area 10 years later, and Indy is joined by a nightclub singer, Willie Scott(Kate Capshaw), and a young sidekick named Short Round(Ke Huy – Quan from “The Goonies”), on a mission to catch and rescue young children who have been kidnapped from a little village by some sort of cult. Indy and his gang infiltrate this unbelievable palace, only to search for the fright that lurks below the state. This film definitley has the Saturday morning serial cliffhanger thing going here. More so than the first and third installments. This movie is a shrimp darker and more violent than “Raiders”. Some fans didn’t assume that was such a safe thing. Their loss. This movie is a rollercoaster plug from beginning to waste. It’s a movie that never stops being spellbinding. There are a number of classic scenes in here, like – The mine cart dawdle, the airplane scene, the water out the side of the mountain, the rope bridge. You know it’s a edifying movie when you can deem of a number of apt scenes like that. Once again, Spielberg has a nice study for details. Ford is the most charismatic hero of the century. No one comes stop. Capshaw and Quan are on hand mostly for comedic serve. Unbiased lay befriend, accumulate some popcorn, and gather ready to have your spines tingled when Indy’s theme song starts….

A faithful adaptation of the unusual by well-known American author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE (1972) is about the life of one Billy Pilgrim, a milquetoast of a man who has somehow become “unstuck” in time and therefore randomly ping-pongs assist and forth to relive various events in his life. Although the film does depict instances when Billy re-experiences a few snippets from both his childhood and the moments immediately preceding his death, most of the time he is relegated to three major periods of his life: His tour of duty in WWII, during which he is a POW in Dresden, Germany, as it is bombed by Allied forces; his mid-life era, in which he suffers from suburban ennui while he labors in an unsatisfying career and contends with his overbearing, overweight wife; and the time he spends as a captive of extraterrestrials on the distant planet Tralfamadore, where he is kept in a dome-like cage and “forced” to mate with a attractive soft-core porn starlet.
As bizarre and confusing as this summarization may sound, the unusually structured position is not all that difficult to follow, and the film is actually quite splendid. This cinematic success can be primarily attributed to the skills of screenwriter Stephen Geller, director George Roy Hill, and film editor Dede Allen. Due to their strong plan of the new and a safe sense of aesthetics, they are able to seamlessly shift the narrative from one era or event to an ostensibly disparate one by intercutting one scene with another while attention is focused on some detail approved to both. This circular epic better serves the message of the film than the more accepted linear (i.e., natural moment-to-moment lope of time) plotting, as it makes it possible to juxtapose events that, while separated by years or even decades chronologically, are similar in theme.
And impartial what is the message this surreal film is trying to boom? As with the recent upon which it is based, the necessary message is a nihilistic one, to wit, that life and the absurd events of which it is comprised are meaningful only because humans impute meaning to them. However, the film also has a subtle but complex existentialist and ontological subtext. Honest below the nihilistic façade is the suggestion that humans should be willing to select ultimate responsibility for the consequences of their actions. In addition, the non-linear plotting suggests that living beings are not disconnected entities WITH a history, but are, instead, comprised OF their history. In other words, a being is not an unprejudiced, corporeal identity existing in a space of temporal flux; a being is an abstract entity that is simultaneously all the different things he has done, is doing, and will do. Heady stuff, that.

The acting in SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE is kindly. As Billy Pilgrim, Michael Sacks epitomizes the naïve, baby-faced child-soldier Billy in the WWII sequences, but he also gives very believable performances when portraying the tedious middle-aged Billy and the Billy living as a zoo specimen on Tralfamadore. Sexy Valerie Perrine plays soft-core porn actress Montana Wildhack, Billy’s “mate” in the Tralfamadorian zoo. A one-time topless dancer herself, Perrine infuses her character with first-rate emotional depth and complexity rather than playing it as the stereotypical porn bimbo. Ron Leibman chews the scenery in the supporting role of Lazzaro, Billy’s comrade-in-arms-cum-assassin, and Eugene Roche gives a very affecting performance as Billy’s wartime mentor, Edgar Derby. There are also cameos by very primary thespians such as Sorrell Booke, Roberts Blossom, John Dehner, Lucille Benson, and British actor John Wood.
The modern DVD release from MCA/Universal is a no-frills disc offering only the theatrical trailer as bonus material. However, unlike previous DVD releases of the film, the widescreen presentation is anamorphically enhanced for 16×9 televisions. The digital transfer is expedient, but there are noticeable filmic and digital artifacts. Nonetheless, the disc is offered at a very reasonable stamp, and the film itself should have a set in the collection of any serious film lover.
After seeing the mess that was “Breakfast of Champions,” I was really skeptical about how the film adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s masterpiece, “Slaughterhouse-Five” would turn out. It isn’t the easiest book to translate into film, after all. So, I believe it’s heavenly to say that I had my doubts at first. I finally found this available on DVD, and to my surprise it was a faithful and well done adaptation. While it may not be absolutely flawless or spectacular, it does its best to cease proper to the source.
Billy Pilgrim is unstuck in time. This meaning that he relives sure parts of his life in random order. There is no beginning, no middle, and no ending for Pilgrim. His life plays in scrambled portions in a continuous loop. This is something that Billy has no control over and he never knows what piece of his life he will revisit next. Sometimes he relives the time he was in WW2 and was a P.O.W. in Dresden. Other times it’s to his life shortly after the war where he is married and has children. Then there are times when he relives the moment where he is taken to the planet Tralfamadore. Filled with comic and heartbreaking moments, Billy is forced to live his life like a scrambled puzzle that is never-ending.

Directed by George Roy Hill, this is a dazzling worthy and luminous adaptation of a correct literary classic, which isn’t the easiest task in the world. While it’s not word-for-word and things are changed around, the film does a more than decent job of staying suitable to the book for the most fraction. The only thing that bugs me a miniature about it is that the film plays more like a drama rather than the satire that is the book. Tranquil, I have to applaud the director for doing a very kindly job of bringing to life a satisfactory book. Michael Sacks is expansive as “Billy Pilgrim” and really becomes the character. If the obnoxious actor was dilapidated for that share, this movie would be a complete grief.
As with any film that is based on a book, it is always murky to view things that didn’t get it in the movie. There were a lot of things that happened in the book that didn’t execute it on mask. While I understand that this is principal, it quiet makes a runt dim. The stuff that does produce it onto film plays out very well. People may be confused with the movie if they haven’t read the book beforehand, but it is not impossible to bask in it without reading the accurate book. I judge the people who have read the book will possibly savor this more, however. The only thing that sort of disappointed me was the ending. I know that it probably wouldn’t had translated well on film had it ended the valid same blueprint the book does, but I found the movie’s ending to be a dinky corny. Despite that, I reflect this was a very respectable and successful worry, even if it isn’t perfect.
Other than the theatrical trailer, this DVD offers no special features whatsoever. The describe is glowing safe, considering how musty the movie is. The newest version that has near out on DVD is presented in Anamorphic Widescreen, which really does encourage bring clarity to the relate. I wasn’t really expecting too many features to be included on this DVD, but it would’ve been nice if a few were added in. I’m clear something could have been done to beget this DVD release better.
So, does “Slaughterhouse-Five” provide a faithful and honest depiction of Vonnegut’s classic unique? In my understanding, yes. It may not be flawless, but it’s definitely a enormous achievement. Despite some of my minor–and they are minor–problems with the film, I found it to be surprisingly pleasurable. If you have read the book, then I support you to check it out, of course keeping in mind that it won’t be a complete replica of the book. If you have seen the movie and have yet to read the book, then I abet you to check out the book, which will definitely retort some of your questions about the film and have in some of those blanks. It was a treat to sight a movie that did its absolute best to never tread away from the written word. -Michael Crane

I am sorry but I regain so tired of the dreadful reviews so many critics write about films such as this movie that are pure enjoyment and entertainment. This movie is objective that kind of movie…there is never a tiring, moment and isn’t that piece of what movies are all about. Sandra Bullock is perfect for this role and while the premise sounds a miniature lame before you gape the movie after seeing it I deem anyone will be pleasantly surprised. If you are expecting an Oscar style movie…no you won’t come by it. If you are expecting to laugh alot and be entertained…you will be. This movie is totally delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is comical, light, humorous. I loved it and I believe anyone else will too if you allow yourself to jsut be entertained. Bullock is so droll and so stout at this type of movie and she learns allot about herself throughout the film so there is character growth too. It will also give you a current appreciation for what the women in beauty pageants build themselves through. Bottom line…THIS IS A Grand MOVIE!!
This is not a movie about an FBI agent who goes underocover at a beauty pageant. Nor is this a movie about a frumpy girl who finds some self love. The state is only there to design the flimsiest of excuses for some world class funny and ensemble acting.
This film is simply about luminous humor and the joy of performance. Does anyone criticize the Marx Brothers films because Groucho makes an unlikely African explorer or dictator?
Sandra Bullock’s performance is one of the finest silly performances in a generation or two. She deserved, at the very least, an Oscar nomination. Her timing is impeccable and her willingness to uglify herself goes far beyond the level of what most actresses would do. Also, her accent and her gestures are absolutely authentic Jersey City.

The other actors are also improbable here especially Michael Caine, who is flat out shining. William Shatner and Candice Bergen are unbelievable. You forget their previous roles as they are so perfectly cast. The other girls in the pageant are splendid. Even the little share of a video technician is hilarious.
I disagree with the other reviewers about Benjamin Bratt. Of course he’s not believable as an FBI agent and he’s stiff as a board: he’s supposed to be. He’s a straight man, pure and simple and his performance is clever, his line readings always surprising.
Great comedy is not about believability or situation. It’s about timing and acting. It is one of the most difficult challenges for actors, for writers, and for directors. Miss Congeniality is, in my belief, one of the colossal comedies of the decade, up there with the Austin Powers films, albeit quite different. I’ve seen it five times, three times in the theater, twice at home. I could search for it again at the topple of a hat.

I hope that the producer (Sandra Bullock) continues to compose such expedient films. Like Clint Eastwood, she may have to wait years for the critics to procure up, but they will. She is that expansive.

The first time I saw this film was when I was 13 or so on a slack night fear movie explain in the mid sixties, I plan it was honest a really unimaginative movie, but I liked it, I idea it was objective someone trying to accomplish a serious alarm film that honest turned out silly. When I saw the film for sale on DVD I fair had to win it, honest to gaze if my boyhood memory of the film was honest what I found was a film that must have been planed to be droll or at least I hope so, as a fan of really campie movies I have to rate The Creature from the Panicked Sea suitable up there with Idea 9 and other boring movies, call me unusual but I honest like it its top-notch for a giggle.
CREATURE FROM Scared SEA isn’t so dreadful when you assume that Roger Corman made it along with two other movies (The Last Woman On Earth, and Battle Of Blood Island) almost simultaneously in Puerta Rico! The casts are interchanchable. The storylines of the three couldn’t be any more different from each other! CFHS is a comical, semi-interesting ogle / monster flick with what resembles a pop-eyed, rubber-gloved christmas tree as the monster! Need I say more? I like it enough to gape it every once in a while. Check it out…

VIOLENT CITY (1970) was first known to fans in the U.S. as THE FAMILY when it was released under that title to theaters in 1974 and subsequently shown on TV and released on VHS under that title as well. The VHS edition came from a company called MPI Video/Maljack Productions and was derived from the TV print, which meant, in the pre-cable days, the removal of several nude scenes. It was also pan-and-scan, not letterboxed, which meant we didn’t gain the corpulent concept of Aldo Tonti’s crisp widescreen cinematography. I was looking forward to this DVD edition which promised an uncut print and a widescreen image. However, there is a anecdote on the DVD case (repeated onscreen prior to the initiate of the film) that reads:
Buy,Download, Or Stream Violent City! Click Here
“This presentation of VIOLENT CITY is complete and uncut, featuring scenes omitted from all previous English language releases. Because these restored scenes were never dubbed into English, they are presented here in Italian with English subtitles.”
Which means characters, including those played by Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland, commence speaking badly dubbed Italian without warning throughout the film. The dialogue switches attend and forth between English and Italian often within the middle of a scene. And whole scenes are played out in Italian, even though I seemed to win having seen them in English in the earlier version of the film. After finishing the DVD, I got out my VHS copy for comparison purposes and, distinct enough, several scenes that were in Italian on the DVD were indeed in English on the VHS. Therefore, the assertion that “these restored scenes were never dubbed into English” is simply not lawful.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Violent City! Click Here
I don’t know why the makers of this DVD didn’t obtain more of a rigorous difficulty to accumulate the bulky English soundtrack, but it seriously compromises the presentation of the film and hampered my ability to savor it. Besides, I didn’t fetch any of the previously missing “restored” scenes all that crucial to the film. Did we really need all that filler racetrack footage with an Italian announcer? I would have preferred a novel DVD transfer of the theatrical slit known as THE FAMILY that played in the U.S.
Does the film have up otherwise? Well, the things that seemed recent to me 30 years ago when I first saw it on TV now seem kind of puny. There are a few memorable scenes (the opening car rush, the racetrack hit, the quick-witted elevator ending), but the overall accomplish is not what it frail to be. Bronson seems kind of unhurried here. Second-billed Telly Savalas is very first-rate, but he enters the film at the one-hour tag and is seen in only a few scenes afterwards. Ireland’s one-note awful girl only starts to bag absorbing in her very last dialogue scene with the lawyer who helped engineer her rise to power, but then they obtain on the elevator… The only element that really retains its dramatic power is Ennio Morricone’s crackling win, one of his most memorable outside of the Leone films. To be attractive, I should also add that the cinematography is well served by the describe quality of the DVD, marking a stout improvement over the full-screen VHS version.
Violent City is the fable of Jeff, a hitman who gets all tangled up in a web of complications around the time he wants to retire(doesn’t it always happen when they want to retire? ) . Jeff goes after some schmuck who tried to destroy him, plus a mountainous time crime boss(Telly Savalas) is trying to derive Jeff to join his organization. There’s also a shady lawyer lurking around and Jill Ireland is popping in and out of Jeff’s life at various points, making things for him considerable more difficult coz he’s rather smitten with her(naturally) . Bronson’s irregular relationship with Ireland is what’s getting Jeff into all these situations and is comely grand the fuel that drives the movie.
This was a beautiful icy movie. It may be an action film, but it takes it’s time telling it’s account. It was directed by Sergio Sollima, who has done another colossal Italian crime flick, Revolver, and the substantial Tomas Milian spaghetti western, Rush Man Bustle. It’s an involving role for Bronson. He’s the same as you usually notice him, yet he’s different. He’s collected the rugged tough guy who speaks very few words, but in this film he comes across as a character with more depth than we’re traditional to seeing. Maybe this is due to Sollima’s direction and tone of the movie, but it really makes Bronson’s performance a very first-rate one. Savalas is always a joy no matter what he’s in. Ireland does a grand job playing a very sexy and mysterious kind of woman who you’re never quite determined if you should be trusting or not.
A very highly recommended film for Bronson fans or fans of Italian crime flicks. If you’re a fan of both(like me!), then it’s truly a double whammy.

No sincere surprises here, but I made distinct to have no expectations as only two people came over from the first Road Run (DJ Qualls and the tour mom) . Sage follows our college youth who compete in a nationals beer pong tournament and the troubles they go through in getting there. Along the diagram we pick up treated to some uninteresting subplots, plenty of elegant breasts, and lots of beer pong. I dig these kind of movies and they can rent/sell very well when it revolves around beer, but this was fair below average in entertainment value.

The portray and sound were exquisite, but the supplements were funnier and more racy than the movie. Including:
* On The Road to Victory/Making Of – 25 shrimp featurette containing the cast/crew interviews; which had some comical insights like how stoked the writer was that he got the sequel director on board (this crew has made the Bring It On follow-ups, the American Pie and Slap Shot sequels) and how the director had cast the tour mom in this film not even shining she had been in the first Road Journey.
* Bodacious Babes of Ta Ta’s – 3 dinky blurb on the gals that filled their roles (and half-shirts) for that sequence of the film.
* Chastity Bus – 3 minutes on the fun that group of gals had playing their parts.

* Gather Your Balls Wet – 9:28 little hold on how the cast feels you should play the game, I allege it would be the necessary for those wanting to learn the finer points. Covers what they learned in doing their “research” for the film.
* In The Buff – 5 minutes on the party they had in filming the concert sequence towards the destroy.
* Deleted Scenes – 5 minutes of forgettable cuts.
* Bloopers – 7 minutes long, and honestly it was funnier than the entire movie.
The unrated is only a little longer and I did not discover anything monumental of “unrated” quality. Another one of those you have playing in the background at a party. One for the movie and two for the extras, skipper otherwise. Devour.

If you’re looking for a obedient well-kept movie that tickles the humorous bone of parents AND children this is a fine choice.
I rented this the other day with the fleshy diagram of sitting through a rather cheesy comedy from the early 1960s. That is to say, I wasn’t expecting worthy. Jack Lemmon is always a worthwhile gaze, and he plays his captain well. And Rick Nelson does a surprisingly effective job of acting, with subtle glances and gestures. Ever the aloof and polite junior officer, you root for the kid with the heart of gold. It is a laughable and curious film, with objective the true amount of slapstick without becoming too amusing, despite the film’s title. And there’s a bonus…Rick sings in his usual dreamy style. It’s pleasurable fun for the whole family. Even today.

The fable then switches to a research facility, where psychics with various gifts are being tested, supposedly for research, but the director has ulterior motives. It is at this facility where the viewer first encounters Cut (Goldblum), a man who can capture up knowledge by touching inanimate objects, and Sylvia (Cyndi Lauper), a young woman who has a end friend from the spirit world named Louise who gives Sylvia information, especially about the future. They are chosen by the director of the program, Dr. Steele (Julian Sands), to go on an indispensable waddle to the Andes to search for essential artifacts. Carve is reluctant to go until he receives confirmation that his girlfriend is cheating on him (Sylvia had warned him) and he gets sick of his boss trying to obtain him do “psychic tricks” to amuse board members. Sylvia, meanwhile, has been approached by a shady character named Harry (the mammoth Peter Falk), who claims his son is lost in South America and offers $50,000 to anyone who will encourage get him. She convinces Carve to advance along and off they go.
From there, it’s a series of misadventures and mishaps, including a near-death experience for Reduce at the hands of a femme fatale. Slit is bitterly disillusioned to peer that Harry is a con artist and he’s stuck with a partner he cannot fathom, as she is totally foreign to his experience. He and Sylvia bicker almost constantly and are, on the face of it, absolute opposites with only their psychic gifts to provide any well-liked ground. However, animosity fades and they accomplish very strong feelings for one another. The unpleasant guys are on their stagger and finally gather up to them, after which Carve and Sylvia learn the truth about what they’ve been really brought down there to do. The power—in and of itself not evil—is going to be musty by Dr. Steele for bad purposes and they must close him. Harry gets killed and Sylvia loses Louise by the demolish of it, but the ending is surprisingly contented, with a very charming twist.
There are many valid qualities about this movie, including the writing, camera work, music and acting, but by far the best parts enthusiastic the interplay between Reduce and Sylvia. Jeff Goldblum and Cyndi Lauper played off each other exceedingly well, with a nice natural timing. It’s a shame that the two of them didn’t design more movies together, especially a sequel to this one. The two actors had a decent chemistry onscreen and were a joy to behold. The supporting cast was also very beneficial, particularly Mr. Falk, and Julian Sands was noble as a self-serving villain too wimpy to do his acquire dirty work. If you’re in the mood for light comedy crossed with the bizarre, then this charming movie nicely fills the bill. A must for Jeff Goldblum and/or Cyndi Lauper fans!
